The Orchestra Filarmonica di Roma was
founded in 1995 by musicians and lovers of musical culture. It is made up of
musicians of the Lazio region, particularly Rome, .
Constructed of four ensembles (symphonic orchestra, chamber orchestra, string
orchestra and brass quintet and ensemble), it has produced 280 concerts for public
administrations, corporate bodies, associations, and private parties.
The orchestra has collaborated with numerous artists such as the singers: Katia
Ricciarelli, Wilma Vernocchi, Arthur Testa, Ivano Costantino, Sergio Leone,
Mirella Caponetti, Sabina Macculi, Montserrat Sanromaˆ, etc.; the soloist
Massimo Quarta (winner of the Paganini prize), Danilo Rossi (soloist at La
Scala), Mark Fornaciari (ex soloist of the "Solisti Veneti"), Ciro Scarponi (clarinettist),
etc.
It has performed several concerts in Rome and Lazio, in Umbria, Tuscany
and
Romagna, both in outdoor settings and in prestigious theaters.
On the occasion of the national holiday on June 2nd, for three consecutive years
(1999, 2000, 2001) the philharmonic has held concerts in Addis Ababa for the Italian Institute
of Culture of Addis and the Italian embassy in Ethiopia. These were memorable because of their artistic, cultural, and diplomatic results, and for the
audience as well.
Also it should be noted that they performed at an important religious event in
preparation for the Jubilee at Saint Peter's in the prescence of Pope John Paul
II.
The philharmonic has given premiere performances of five unpublished oratorios in the years
1999, 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2004 with television recordings and publications on
compact disc and musical press.
In particular, the orchestra produced a double CD of music of G. De Paolis, a
composer in Civitavecchia who lived and wrote music in the first half of the 20th
century. For this CD, the Orchestra also performed a live concert with Katia
Ricciarelli in the Theater Traiano in Civitavecchia of this music that had never
before
been published or performed with an orchestra.
In February 2003 it held concerts in Dubai and Abu Dhabi (E.A.U.) organized by
the Embassy of Italy in the United Arab Emirates and by the Italian consulate in
Dubai.
Also of importance is the concert held December 13th, 2003, in the theater of
the Government Cultural Association of Abu Dhabi; the concert inaugurated the
week of “Italian style 2003” organized by the embassy of Italy.
On September 8th 2005 they put on a concert in Loreto's church for the "Concert Totus Tuus in memory of John Paul II",
" with great
international singers, recorded and transmitted by RAI International and RAI
UNO; in this concert was recorded onto a DVD by RAI Trade.
The concert held at the Roman
Anphitheater of El Jem (Tunisia), of great importance, was performed on August 12th, 2006 with the
soprano Elena Riem for the International Festival of the Symphonic Orchestras.
On November 28th 2006, in the presence of the Prince and Princess of the Jordan
Kindom, the Orchestra played an important concert for the italian Embassy in
Amman.
On May 19th 2007, in the presence of the Princess
India d'Afghanisthan, the Orchestra performed the "Concert for Kabul".
The Orchestra
performed the Pops Season 2007/2008 at the theater Italia in Rome with the
artistic direction of the trumpet players Flavio and Massimo Patella with the
concerts "Star Wars... in concert", "Hollywood Blockbusters" and "Le Piace il
Musical?".
The repertoire of the orchestra spans from the
Baroque period to the music of today, from instrumental and solo music to lyric
and opera. |
